As avid budgeters, we unsurprisingly are always on the hunt for a good deal, so we figured we'd share a couple of our secrets. In being transparent with the services we personally use, we also want to be transparent with the disclosure that we may be compensated if you sign up for them (for most of them though, we won't be). Again, our purpose here is to openly let you in on the tricks we've found helpful in our own lives.

Credit Cards

If used responsibly, credit cards are a great way to bring home a few thousand dollars every year - even for moderate spenders like ourselves. Jeremy shares how in his step-by-step guide to credit cards.

Towards that end, Eric uses Chase's suite of credit cards - the Chase Sapphire Reserve (compare to Preferred) for travel and dining, Chase Freedom for rotating categories, and Chase Freedom Unlimited for everything else. Depending on how much you travel, Southwest's Companion Pass is perhaps the most lucrative credit card reward of all.

Phone Service

Google Fi. Jeremy's family of two generally pays less than $65/mo total. Fi also comes with great perks like no contract, wi-fi calling and fee-free international usage, and you can use code 2MA1JX for $20 free. Available to both iPhone and Android users.

Be in a group plan. Eric shares a group plan (on T-Mobile) with five others. On just about any carrier, the third, fourth, and fifth lines are always less expensive than the first and second, bringing down the price for everyone!

Food

For groceries, both of us use Ibotta. It saves us over $150 a year, and if you use code gkwhoyx you'll get $10 cash free! When eating out, we use local coupons, apps like Hooked, Safe 2 Save, Tastebud, Groupon, and loyalty programs for specific restaurants. In general, discounts are a helpful way to get more bang for your buck, but keep in mind that no 'good deal' should be an excuse for spending more money than originally budgeted.
